Leave no one behind in Digital and Financial Literacy: The case of China
On September 27, 2024, Rallou Taratori, a doctoral student from the SEE group, presented a detailed study on the intersectional dimensions of inequality in digital and financial literacy across various Chinese provinces. The research applied the Leave No One Behind (LNOB) framework to investigate the marginalized groups that are at risk of being excluded from the rapidly advancing realms of digital and financial education.
This study investigates the intersectional dimensions of inequality in digital and financial literacy across Chinese provinces, employing the ‘Leave No One Behind’ (LNOB) framework to identify groups at risk of marginalization. Using data from the China Family Panel Study (CFPS), the research seeks to uncover the intersectional groups systematically left behind in the transition toward digital and financial literacy. Drawing on intersectionality theory and relevant literature, the analysis explores how multiple factors—such as gender, age, socioeconomic status, geography, and discrimination—combine to shape vulnerabilities.
By focusing on these intersections, the study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of disparities in digital and financial literacy, highlighting structural barriers and informing targeted interventions to bridge these gaps. The findings offer critical insights into achieving inclusive development in the context of rapid technological and economic transformation in China.
